Dr Lydia Lim presented a paper at the ASTMJS conference in San Diego. Her paper was on” Combined Orthognathic Surgery and TMJ replacement Surgery”. Dr Lim presented on the complexity of decision making for patients where when TMJ replacement surgery may or may not be required. Dr Lim discussed cases where TMJ replacement would beneficial including Idiopathic condylar resorption , TMJ Ankylosis and TMJ Osteochondroma and outlined complexity of planning including Virtual Surgical Planning and Counter-clockwise rotation, and how advances in 3D planning and cutting guides allows for a single stage surgical procedure where both TMJ replacement and Orthognathic Surgery can be done simultaneously in a single stage procedure which can provide improvement in TMJ function, Facial Aesthetics, Occlusion and Airway. Dr Lim has been awarded International membership of the American Society of TMJ Surgeons.
