At your initial consultation, the surgical fee for your procedure will be fully discussed with you and a printed estimate, including item numbers, will be provided. Fees depend on your procedure and can vary in complexity from patient to patient. For this reason, we prefer to wait until your consultation for an accurate fee estimate, rather than provide estimates over the phone prior to you seeing our doctors in person.
If your procedure requires a hospital visit, there will be three fees: the surgeon’s fee, hospital fees, and the anaesthetist’s fee. Private hospitals require an appropriate level of hospital cover for theatre and ward costs; if you do not have private health insurance, an estimate of hospital fees can be obtained directly from the hospital using the relevant item numbers for your procedure.
Medical procedures — such as jaw surgery, bone grafting, or removal of cysts — attract a Medicare rebate and are also claimable through private health insurance. Dental procedures are not claimable under Medicare; procedures such as wisdom tooth extraction or dental implant placement can instead be claimed through “Dental Extras” cover with your private health fund. You should also expect to receive a separate fee estimate from the anaesthetist.
