International Conference of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ICOMS) Singapore, May 2025
Dr Lydia Lim was an invited speaker at ICOMS 2025 in Singapore. Dr Lim lectured on “ Orthognathic Surgery for the Asian Face”. Dr Lim spoke of the challenges of treating the Asian Face in Orthognathic Surgery and differences in Asian versus Caucasian faces. She discussed the challenges of Asians having orthognathic surgery in the West as we are trained to treat the Caucasian face. She emphasised the need to treat Asians differently to get optimal aesthetic outcomes and avoid unfavourable outcomes particularly with nasal widening and tipping, and midface fullness. She talked about how our perception and acculturation can influence our aesthetic preferences and decision making and to aim for an ideal Asian face and not a Caucasian norm.
