Event : European Association of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeons(EACMFS) Conference

Venue : Rome ITALY

Dr Lydia Lim was invited to present a paper at the EACMFS Conference at the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons session, Her paper was on Distraction Osteogenesis of the Severe Cleft Maxilla with simultaneous Mandibular osteotomy. Dr Lim discussed the challenges of the severe cleft deformity and how conventional orthognthic surgery in these group of patients is either not possible or unstable with high relapse rate. She presented her innovative approach to using Distraction Osteogenesis with intra-oral distractore as a single stage procedure and combined with mandibular osteotomy. She showed how to control the vector to allow for greater accuracy and why doing a combined mandibular osteotomy is beneficial for optimal facial aesthetic outcomes.  Rome is a beautiful place for a conference and the opportunity to meet and collaborate with colleagues from all over the world in this historic city made this a truly memorable trip.
