Which Hospitals?
 

Dr Lim operates at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and Hunters Hill Private Hospital. Bimaxillary osteotomy cases are always done at the Sydney Adventist Hospital due to availability of the Intensive Care facility. Dr Lim has been performing orthognathic surgeries at both hospitals for over 20 years. Dr Lim believes in a consistent and team approach to her cases and her surgical team includes a specialist anaesthetist, a medically qualified surgical assistant and highly trained operating theatre nurses.
 

How long do I stay in Hospital ?

For 2 jaw surgery, patients usually stay 3 to 4 nights in hospital with the first night in the High Dependency Unit or ICU. For 1 jaw surgery, the average stay is 2 to 3 nights in hospital.
 

How long is the surgery?

One jaw surgery usually takes approximately 2 hours and 2 jaw surgery averages 3 to 4 hours. Timing will vary depending on the complexity of the case and if additional procedures such segmental surgery or genioplasty are required.
 

How much time off do I need to recover?

For 2 jaw surgery, 3 to 4 weeks is recommended to be off work or school.  For one jaw surgery, 2 weeks is possible.  Soft diet needs to continue for a total of 6 weeks after which time a full recovery to normal diet and activities are expected.
