Dr Leesa Rix

Dr Leesa Rix has been a specialist Oral Surgeon since 1993 having completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate education at the University of Sydney. She completed her Masters of Dental Science (Oral Surgery) in 1992 and the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons in 1993.  In 2001 she completed the Diploma of Clinical Dentistry (Sedation and Pain Control).. Her particular areas of interest include third molar surgery, oral surgery for orthodontics (exposing impacted teeth and transplantations) and oral pathology. Her research involvement in local anaesthesia, third molars and mandibular fractures has resulted in publications in recognized journals.

Dr Rix was first section head then Head of the Department of Oral Surgery at the Sydney Dental Hospital from 1993 to 2002. This involved being a consultant surgeon to both Sydney Dental Hospital and Concord Hospital, departmental administration and training and supervision of her staff. During this period she was also an affiliated Oral Surgeon to Sydney Children’s Hospital, Canterbury Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Westmead Hospital and Western Suburbs Hospital.

Dr Rix has always been interested in education and was a Clinical Lecturer for the University of Sydney in Oral Surgery from 1993 until 2002 involving the clinical teaching and lecturing to dental undergraduates. Since this time she has been a Consultant Visiting Specialist to the Sydney Dental Hospital and Concord Hospital for both the Oral Surgery and Orthodontic Departments. She has recently conducted a course for dentists in Exodontia and Minor Oral Surgery for the Australian Dental Association and in the past has lectured to a number of NSW dental associations.

In 2002 Dr Rix commenced private practice in Chatswood joining Dr Lydia Lim’s established practice. Here she has enjoyed the close relationship she has with her patients, referring dentists and staff. Her particular expertise is in impacted tooth surgery, orthodontic related oral surgery and oral pathology and carries out the majority of this work in our practice. She has regular operating sessions in our Chatswood surgery under local anaesthetic and intravenous sedation as well as general anaesthetic lists at Hunters Hill Private Hospital and Dalcross Adventist Hospital. She is currently serving on the Medical Advisory Committee and is chairman  of the Dental Specialty Committee for Hunters Hill Hospital.

Dr Rix is active in her profession as has been secretary of the Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of NSW since 2004 and is their representative on the Oral Surgery Panel of the Dental Board of Australia.  She is a member of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons, the Australian Dental Association and the Academy of Dentistry International.
